Eagle Scout Project - Dumpster Enclosure

My name is Harrison Houle, I am 17 years old and a Boy Scout from Troop 10, in Honeoye Falls. I also currently play on the Varsity baseball and football teams for HF-L.

As you may know, the highest rank in the Boy Scout program is an Eagle Scout. In order to attain this rank, along with many years of leadership, community service, merit badges, and outdoor skills, you must complete a project to benefit your community. In this requirement, you must show your leadership capabilities and complete this so that it is meaningful to yourself.

For my Eagle Scout project, I have decided to replace the current dumpster enclosure at the HFLMYB fields, in Mendon. This project has been approved by my scout unit (Troop 10), the HFLMYB organization, and my scout council (Seneca Waterways, being the head council for Monroe county and the Finger Lakes area).

As many of you know, the current dumpster enclosure is in bad shape. It constantly requires attention (such as staining it annually, and repairs for little issues along the fencing), and has become an eyesore to the baseball fields. It also has potential safety concerns. The baseball fields are so well maintained and our baseball community has invested lots of gracious time into the fields, making them playable for the youth. However, the current dumpster enclosure misrepresents this, being the first thing you see upon entering the ballfields.

My project will consist of multiple phases. These are as follows-

1. Removing the current enclosure

2. Digging a foundation base 4 feet deep in a U shape

3. Filling with concrete

4. Laying split face cinder block all around the dumpster on top of the concrete, with a top cap on top

5. Finishing by installing a black and gold slatted chain link fence at the entrance

I chose this project because it is extremely important to me to give back to the HFLMYB organization. I have played baseball at these fields since drills and skills and currently play on the 17u team coached by Rob Meehan (along with varsity baseball in the spring). I always knew that I wanted to have my Eagle Scout project at the fields, and it is my way of giving back to what has taught me so much and provided me with so much fun in playing baseball.

As you can assume, a project this size will require a large amount of funding to provide these materials. It has been estimated that this project will cost over $5,000. This Paypal fund-raiser provides an easy way to collect these funds and transfer them to be able to purchase items needed for this project.

I am kindly asking that if you are able to, please donate towards this project.  Please note that all of the leftover money that is not spent on my project will be given to the HFLMYB organization.

If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact any of the board members of the HFLMYB organization.

Thank you for your time and/or gracious donation towards this project. I cannot wait to start this project and help the HF-L baseball community.
